Hidden Charger!

Blogger isn't letting me upload any photos today, and since the post I was going to do is mostly photos - well, no point!

So I'll update you on the phone charger.  I found it this morning after looking for it for two days.

It was lying on the window sill in my study - a room I spend a lot to time in.  The window is right across from the door, so I see it the minute I walk in the room.  The phone charger was not hidden, obscured, or covered by anything - it was just lying there!

My only excuse is that I've been avoiding looking at that window,  because since the ash cloud (Icelandic volcano) its been a bit, err, well, dirty - and I haven't got round to cleaning it yet!

So I have two questions:-

1.         Where has charger been for two days ... holidays?
2.         Anyone else still having trouble with Blogger?

Coronation Bible

I found this wee New Testament at the Christian Aid Book Fayre recently.

Its only 4½" by 3" - absolutely tiny!  (Excuse the Mr Blobby ruler - it was the only one I could find.)

It would have appeared to have been issued to commemorate the coronation of George VI in 1937.

Some little sepia pictures at the front and coloured illustrations inside.

Lovely little publication.

Coronation pictures from another little magazine I picked up (and blogged about) a few months ago - the Pictorial Life Story of King George VI.

By the way … does anyone know where I left my phone charger … hmm … I'm sure I left it in the kitchen ………………………!  Where on earth is it??????

Pink Vintage

Isn't it funny how on certain days, when you are out charity shopping, you somehow find things that just seem to go together!  I found these lovelies last Tuesday - in different shops!

These two plates are just so pretty, especially the flowery one.

The other is quite plain, but very classy, I think.

My favourite find was this lovely red and white tablecloth in its original packaging!
Big decision - to take it out or not?

But then what would be the point of keeping it pristine?  No doubt that's why it ended up in the charity shop in the first place!  Ho hum ... decisions ... what do you think?

Have a lovely weekend.

Glorious Florals

I've mentioned before that I used to do a lot of cross stitching - so when I saw this lovely bowl, I just had to purchase it.  This was a few years ago, but I still love it!

It is eight and a half inches square and shows a posy of flowers surrounded by a delicate gold and white pattern.

It is by H & K Tunstall (isn't she a singer? ha, ha).  Not sure when it was produced.

Here's a little cross stitch (made in the 90s)of my own from a pattern by Cross Country Stitching.  I loved that magazine, wonder if it is still in production?

Think today's post has been inspired by RHS Chelsea - hasn't it been amazing to see some of the wonderful plants and flowers?!

Little Red Reading Book

I found this lovely little school reading book in a second hand bookshop.

It would appear to be part of a series of reading books prepared by the Infant's Reading Committee of the Education Department of New South Wales, Australia.

It has stories about a family - Mother, Father, Ken, Jill and Pamela and there are some sweet little illustrations inside.

I think it probably dates from the early 60s.  Does anyone know more about it?

Wonder how it ended up in Scotland fifty years later!

Flying Pheasants!

When I changed my blog header a lot of people commented on the china displayed on it, so I thought I'd give it a post of its own.

Its called "The Coppice" and its by Royal Doulton.  Ssh … it’s a coffee set - don't tell anyone!  I think this pattern was produced from 1937 till the 60s, does anyone know anything else about it?

There are lovely images of pheasants in flight.  Now as anyone who has gone for a drive in the country at certain times of the year knows - pheasants are not the most intelligent birds, but they are lovely to look at.

The other side of the little cup has a lovely tree branch painted on it.

It’s an unusual set.
These, plus another couple of cups, saucers and plates were destined for the bin till someone remembered that I "liked that sort of thing" and asked me if I wanted it!  What could I say?  So, dear reader, it came to live with me.

Reminds me of another little ditty - is it poetry week or something??  You know, the one about the person who removes the feathers from pheasants, the pheasant plucker.  This is so childish, I know, but say it really fast a couple of times over! (tee hee).

Stylish Mum

This is a picture of my Mum and Dad on honeymoon in Whitley Bay in 1953.  Aren't they a stylish couple?  Look at the lovely paisley print on Mum's dress.  (Click on pics to see in more detail.)

I was doing a bit of blog hopping at the weekend and was absolutely amazed at the number of fantastic women dressing in vintage clothes.  That made me go and look at some of Mum's photos.  She was always so particular about how she dressed and her hair was always immaculate.

This is her probably aged about 18.

Even looked stylish in her WAAF uniform.

Look how the buttons emphasise the nipped-in waist.
Mum and I didn't always get on, but she was my Mum and a brilliant Gran to my sons.  She would have like me to be more like her as far as dressing smartly and always looking "nice" - I was (and still am) a bit of a jeans and tee shirt girl and hate wearing makeup!

Unfortunately I didn't inherit her good looks or sense of style either!
Never mind .......... at least I can ..........type?!?!

Heilan' Coo

Took this picture of a highland cow, or heilan' coo as we would say.

Reminded me of this little ditty -
ahem, clears throat, poses dramatically as if on stage and recites -

Upon a hill there stauns a coo …..
Its wandered aff …..
Its naw there noo!

Bows gracefully and exits, stage left - thunderous applause!

Don't know who wrote it - sound a bit like something Stanley Baxter would have said!  But it’s a bit of fun - try it with a Scottish accent - amaze and astound your family and friends!

A little bit of Scottishness on Sunday!
