Get A Grip!

Gosh, these look like almost industrial strength suspenders!  Some more adverts from the Needlecraft magazine of about 1900.

And, if F Cecil Russell's cure for corpulence didn't work, then I suppose its back to the corset!

Such a lot of underwear - and doesn't look that comfortable, either!

Enjoy what's left of your Sunday.

Love, Liz

Hello:
What superb advertisements. And we are old enough to remember seeing not such dissimilar signs in department stores in London in the 1950s.

Enjoy your Sunday too. It is, sadly, rapidly slipping away.

Hilarious! 'velvet grip' is surely an oxymoron! The ads are very convincing though, I would probably be hooked in to get that perfect Edwardian silhouette!

You are so right about the underwear not looking comfortable, but they are sure fun to see. Thanks for sharing them, I did enjoy.

Ha, ha, those old ads certainly give me a laugh. Thank goodness the days of corsets are gone.

Perhaps she had industrial strength stockings to 'suspend'! I love these old ads Liz. Thanks for putting them on here.

Velvet grip sounds like it should be an erotic novel, the new 50 Shades!
And the Formu corset which gives "undersized busts a pleasing suggestion of generous proportions" was clearly the chicken fillet/Wonderbra of its day! Plus ca change...
Great ads, Liz! xxxx

~ Great vintage advertising, Liz..
My~ how times have changed! People seem to let it all 'hang out' now, when they perhaps shouldn't hehe.
I did notice YOU in Pretty Nostalgic Mag....
Such a lovely read...
With kind thoughts, Maria X

Great adverts, huge suspenders!! I wouldn't mind trying these out, though I don't need bust enhancers!
