Scary Maths!

I was pretty rubbish at maths in school!  I liked arithmetic, or "sums" as we called it, but I could never get my head around complicated calculus, trigonometry, formulae and such.

I found this case of old mathematical/drawing instruments - more like instruments of torture to me!  Don't they look scary?  I wouldn't have a clue what they are for.

Funnily enough my husband and sons are fabulous at maths/physics etc.

This book was my husbands when he was at college - its a foreign language to me.

Were you good at maths?

Love, Liz

I saw the word 'maths' and I shuddered. I'm not too bad at sums, but I need to think about them. I was half reasonable at probability but that was about the only thing that worked outside of the basics.
I have a son who doesn't think it is a real sum unless half the Greek alphabet is contained therein. But then, he did do his year 9 independent research assignment on Time Dilation. It was very interesting but I think the only person who really would understand is Professor Hawking.
I'll stick to trying to work out block sizes for patchwork. That should do, shouldn't it?

I used to be good at math but somewhere along the uneven years of my life, I lost a lot of that. Didn't use it at work but did use writing skills so that became stronger and my math dwindled.

Nope. Not me, completely useless, still am. Maybe if I had been called Silvanus, it would have been a different story... xxxxx

Maths was my preferred subject to all others. Note the past tense!

I was rubbish at maths and physics too. Still have trouble fathoming stuff out but my sons were great at both.

I was useless at school, how odd I ended up doing accounts! (Glad I'm retired though now.)
Hope you're keeping well Liz.

Algebra, yes, I loved finding out the unknown. Not keen on calculus or geometry!

I loved Maths at school. I went on and did it at uni too and became a Maths teacher until I had my children. Your Maths instruments make me want to dig mine out and draw a circle or two! :oD

Hello Liz, thanks for your nice comment and what a great and varied blog you have here! I was hopeless at maths, except for geometry. However, I enjoy (to some extent) keeping the family accounts and I can alter knitting and sewing patterns. Strange how one's brain / motivation works.

Nah my eyes glaze over when people start talking about numbers. They really do. I have other talents!
I do appreciate those little math tool sets though!
