Crowded Charabancs and Rob Roy

I found this lovely little brochure in a second hand book shop recently.  Its entitled "The Rob Roy Country" and was issued by the Bailie Nicol Jarvie Hotel, Aberfoyle in the beautiful Trossachs.

Guests could on trips to the surrounding countryside - although I think this vehicle looks a bit overcrowded!  Love the driver's outfit!  Wonder if the little cart following on behind is bringing the picnic?

There are some fabulous advertisements - look at the price of this chair from Reynolds, McCulloch & Boyle, house furnishers of Glasgow - £7!  Furniture of personality, eh?  Hope its not truculent or has sociopathic tendencies - prefer happy furniture myself!

Rob Roy (1671-1734) was a Scottish Robin outlaw and folk hero whose exploits were made famous in a novel by Sir Walter Scott.  He lived at Inversnaid on Loch Lomond (just in case you were wondering!).

Vintage Vogue

These pictures are FAB!

They are from a vintage Vogue Knitting Pattern booklet dated September 1967.

Some of the patterns are a bit ... well different.  This particular outfit is called the "Bell-Boy Suit"!

Some of the pictures are so amazing!  Love the wool symbol ring.

But for me, this just shouts 60s!  Love it!

The tea cosies are off to their new homes.  Thanks to all who enquired.

Retro Knitted Tea Cosies

I've been busy!

Just finished knitting two retro tea cosies.  The first one is in shades of brown - perhaps a bit of an unusual colour combo for me, but goes really well with this pretty Sutherland fine bone china.

My second one is in pretty shades of pink.  Looks great with this Cath Kidston mug.

If you'd like to purchase either of these or have one  knit in a different colour combination then get in touch.  My email address is on the side panel of my blog.

Time to start another project!

Do the Strand - 1901 Style!

I found this vintage Sunday Strand book from 1901 in a second hand bookshop while I was on holiday.  It is made up mostly of religious stories and moral tales.

It has some fabulous illustrations - with equally fab captions!

Don't like the look of those rockets!

Not really the kind of question a lady should ask!

This is from a series of strange doll adventures - one of them involved bull fighting!!!

I love this Louis Wain illustration of cats.

I have to thank Mrs C at Crivens Cottage for sending me this lovely little lavender heart with Shortbread and Ginger sewn on - it smells lovely.  She also included gorgeous postcards and some lovely trimming - I'll have to think about what I'm going to do with it.  Isn't it fabulous to receive such thoughtful gifts!

Enjoy your weekend.

Sewing Box Transformed!

Isn't it great when you actually find something you have had on your wish list for ages?!  I got this vintage wooden sewing box in a local charity shop and, best of all, it was full of sewing goodies!  I blogged about some of them here.

Of course I couldn't just leave the box the way it was, so I got hubby to take it apart for me and after a couple of coats of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint it was transformed!

The little drawers had been lined with this wonderful 70s wallpaper, but I decided that something a bit brighter would be more effective after I had painted it, so I chose this pink and white polka dot paper.

I have to admit that it was a nightmare to paint - all those little bits and pieces.  I would not do it again!

The good news is - I've sold it already!!!!!
