Remember 45s?

The very first record I ever saved up for and bought was a Single (45 rpm) and it was Ob-la-di, Ob-la-da by Marmalade!  I was reminded of this after watching a TV show last weekend all about 45s and people remembering their first.  Of course I have some still in the house, so after an extensive rummage I found them.

I had forgotten just how decorative some of the record sleeves were!  Particularly love this one for David Bowie's Beauty and the Beast.

Graham Parker and the Rumour - Hold Back the Night.

Theme From Harry's Game by Clannad - played this one to death, loved it so much!

Let's not forget the class act -  Spandau Ballet's Instinction and To Cut A Long Story Short.  Even some of the covers are classy!

Ok, I know that some of you are just young things, but do any of you remember the first one you bought?

Love, Liz

Can't remember the exact one, but it was likely by David Cassidy or Donny Osmond. Yes, I was a bubblegum girl!!

I'm A Believer by The Monkees - lol. I had this little record player that only played 45's and I loved it!

I remember buying my first album but am too ashamed to name it, I cringe at the thought!

I found a little stack of vinyl last week when I was clearing out cupboards for a visitor! Happy memories looking at the covers - takes you right back. The first record me and my sister had was the Monkees 'I'm a Believer' which must have been given to us as we weren't great shoppers at 3 and 4 years old!
Have a good weekend!

I don't have any singles but I do have a collection of LPs. My first purchase was a Rod Stewart but I don't remember which one. Have a good weekend.

I think my first 45 was Paperback Writer by the Beatles. Guess that dates me!

I used to pretend it was 'I don't like Mondays' by The Boomtown Rats but that was really the second single I bought. The first single I actually bought was 'Coward of the county' by Kenny Rodgers. I no longer care what people think about this!

I don't remember the first 45 - I had them all through my childhood and played them on a little record player. I think it was 'The Chipmunks', which was a cartoon at the time. My first LP was Abby Road. I gave all my albums to my son who uses them as art on his bookshelves. But I kept one - Eric Clapton, Layla. Couldn't part with that one.....xo Karen

Remember them? I have still got mine!!
Marmalade, now there's a blast from the past. In the 70's my cousin and I babysat for the children of one of the members of marmalade group!

Hi Liz, mine was Adam and the Ants " Kings of the wild Frontier" It cost £1 from the co-op and that seemed like a lot of money.
Mostly I just taped the Sunday night charts from Radio 1 :0)

Like Jacquie I did the taping from the radio thing. I saved up for the LPs, my first was Blondie's Parallel Lines.

Ha, like Jacquie, I taped songs off the radio as I couldn't afford many records. I have 2 older sisters so I mostly played the singles they bought, but I think my first purchase was Come up and see me (make me smile) by Cockney Rebel. xxx

First album with my own pocket money was Skyhooks (Australian band) "Living in the 70s". I bought it in 1973.
