Poldark

I've just heard (probably ages after everyone else knows) that there is to be a remake of Poldark!  Do you remember it?

It was a BBC series, an adaptation of the Winston Graham novels set in the late 18th century in Cornwall.  It was shown from 1975-1977.  Robin Ellis played the part of Ross Poldark - he was a bit of a heart throb!

I thought Demelza (played by the late Angharad Rees), was the most beautiful name I had ever heard, and vowed that if I ever had a daughter, that would be her name!  Thankfully I had two sons.

I remember being glued to the TV when this was on.  I read all the books too.  Hope the remake is good.

Love, Liz

Hello Liz

Yes,Yes,Yes I do remember it and it was extremely popular in Spain. I remember I lived in the Canary Islands then and we had bought our first colour TV. I used to get quite irritated when watching it because it was in Spanish and my Spanish at the time was really basic. I still enjoyed it though.I shall look forward to that remake.

keep well

~Ooh yes....This was our Sunday evenings before school, next day...My Mama had a crush on robin Ellis...and I have one or two cuttings from mags of the time that mum had kept!!.. I heard the pretty actress who played Demelza passed away quite recently...I loved her part as she was young wild and care free...And I really wanted to grow up like her...Thanks for reminding me, liz...Hugs Maria x

Oh yes I used to love this! I was in my late teens and used to love it!
I hadn't heard about the remake - they often disappoint as they have a lot to live up to, but fingers crossed!
I'm a sucker for Cedar Cove at the moment!

It's got Aiden Turner as Ross Poldark so how can it go wrong?

My mum adored it too! My sister is named Clowance after that character and I also ended up with a Cornish name! X

Yes! I loved it, and could hardly wait each week for it to be on. A remake will be wonderful, I wonder how long it will take to make it's way here to the USA. Something to look forward to.

It was must-see viewing in our house, even for my Daddy, whi wasn't really a costume drama person. I read all the book too. Agree with you about the Onedin Line, too! Was television better then or was it because there were only 3 choices?

Oh yes Robin Ellis was a dish, did you know he writes a foodie blog? Didn't realise Angharad Rees had died or that there was going to be a new series. It has a lot to live up to. As for Onedin Line, I immediately launched into the theme tune and have visions of Cap'n Baines in my head.
