Pimple powder potion

Pimples - not a word you hear much these days.  I found a strange illustration in an old medical book showing a girl getting rid of blackheads.

What fascinated me was her fancy cap - imagine getting all dressed up to squeeze your spots!

This advertisement is for arsenic complexion wafers.  Not sure arsenic would be good for the skin - but it seems to have worked wonders for the young, penniless girl who married well.  All due to her wonderful complexion (love that word too)!

If in doubt, you could always make your own pimple powder from the recipe below.

Love, Liz

I love some of the old advertisements but I dare not start another collection. Some of the old metal ones are amazing.

Another of your interesting artifacts! I was explaining an antique "hair reciever" to my granddaughters over Christmas. My how things evolve! I hope it is a happy new year for you! So nice to know that you came by!

I love these old cuttings. Can you imagine dressing up to squeeze those luscious pimples!! I'm going to show my Miss Teen some of the remedies and see if she takes any of them up! I saw her the other day with toothpaste on a couple and said she swore by this. They are still there!! Have a wonderful weekend xx

This is really interesting. I love the photos, too. I know that arsenic was a common ingredient in face powder and it gave those lovely girls such a nice ghostly complexion. Hey. Whatever works.

I found this quite fascinating. I love seeing old advertisements. Can you even by those ingredients today to make this solution? I hope you have a great weekend, Pat

That is hysterical! I love the reality that girls back then suffered with the same things we do and they talked about it! Thanks for visiting my blog!

So different to the pimple adverts that used to be on television. I haven't seen any for ages. Love the pretty cap but don't quite like the sound of the arsenic remedy:)
