Lovely Ladybird Books

Thought I'd share some more Ladybird Books from my (growing) collection.

Dick Whittington and his cat - a great favourite as you can see from its condition!  Story retold by Vera Southgate and illustrated by Eric Winter.  They were also responsible for the next book -another well-loved tale - Puss in Boots.

Big Animals - lots of information for children to enjoy.

Written and illustrated by John Leigh-Pemberton.

Road Sense - love the pictures in this - so dated (1977) now, but great to look at.  Written by R Collingridge and illustrated by B H Robinson.

The Vikings - such a fabulous book just full of fascinating pictures and information.  Written by Stephanie Bardon and illustrated by Richard Hook and Jon Davis.

Loved these book as a child.  My children loved them and I still love them.  They really can't be beaten for fabulous writing and illustrations.

These are my Five on Friday - come and have a look at some fabulous blogs.

Love, Liz

Hi there. I just stumbled by your blog after looking at some of the 5 on Friday. I love this post. Ladybird books are some of my favourite things. I loved them as a child and remembered the pictures vividly. Unfortunately my mum had a clear out when I was in my teens and they got passed on to relatives! She's never heard the last of it:). Thank you for indulging me in a bit of nostalgia.

I love the really old fairy story Ladybird books. I think I had the Puss in Boots book when I was little. The pictures look so familiar.

Ladybird Books were entertaining and informative. The company employed some talented illustrators and you could buy these books for a modest price. I remember the Road Sense one well and many others that we had on our classroom reading shelf. I still have Big Animals in my small collection, although many children's books have been given away over the years.

I love the old Ladybird books, I used to own lots of them when I was young and still have a few. The wonderful illustrations are very dated now but iconic with the time in which they were published. xx

These books are just wonderful and brings a feeling of nostalgia looking at them. I remember them as a child and have a few around the house that i look at from time to time, especially the ones on garden birds and wild flowers ones as they are still useful today.
Have a good weekend Liz

Nothing brings back happy memories so much as a book we knew as a child. I still bring out my Grimm's and Andersen's Fairy Tales once in awhile.

I remember those first two as I had them too, along with so many others. My favourite was Rose Red and Snow White (or were they the other way around?). I now can't go past roses without wanting to put the white and red ones together. I love Ladybird books and want to start another collection to reminisce. Have a wonderful Sunday x

What a lovely old books. My older daughter who's five and a half has been given by my in-laws a few well-used Ladybird books and she loves to use them to practice her reading. I think these books are fantastic.

Last autumn in Loughborough there were benches installed to celebrate Ladybird books. They are amazing to see in real life.

What a great collection . . .
Amazing how one gets caught up in collecting something and before long it takes on a life of its own.
I am not familiar with these books . . . they look interesting, love the illustrations.
I have saved and collected many children books from my teaching days
Plus a few from my personal childhood days . . .
Happy Match Days . . .

They were such beautiful books. I loved the Princess and the pea, and the Princess & the Frog. The latter giving me a love of gold cutlery. I remember one picture of the frog scoffing something from a gold fork and I always loved that picture and wanted a gold fork one day. Got my wish last year, when we bought new gold (coloured, not solid!) cutlery.

Funny how such small things really stick far back in the mind.

I saw some new ladybird books just before Christmas. comedy ones. How it works - The Husband and the same about 'the wife'. I had a look through, giggled here and there, but no, didn't buy them. Just didn't have the same appeal! :O)

I definitely had those first two when I was little, don't remember the Vikings one but it would be handy as my youngest has been doing them at school and we've had a ton of homework!

I still have some Ladybird books from when I was little. We used to be given religious ones at Sunday school as prizes. I still pick up the odd one, but they seem to be getting harder to find and more expensive too. Are you finding this? Ruth.
