Just me and the Rabbits!

I paid another visit to Greenock Cemetery recently.

There's something about the place which just sets my imagination off on its travels.

Who were these people?

Why did they choose the imagery which decorates the graves of their loved ones?  Was it something to do with the trades they were involved in?  Being a port town, there are a lot of ship and anchor sculptures.

Think it's the gravestone that's squinty, not my photo!
I wasn't the only visitor!

Love, Liz

It'll probably sound a touch macabre but I have to say I find graveyards so beautiful - this one looks full of intriguing stones and monuments! :-)

It’s odd isn’t it how we’re drawn to reading these old gravestones? It’s a pity the weathering has deleted the inscription on that last one.

I like grave yards too Liz, such interesting inscriptions to be found. Love all those beautiful ships on the ones in your post, and the rabbits are a joy to see.
I walked past our old grave yard this morning to be greeted by the three cockerels living there that escaped from the farm sales about three years ago :o) They seem very healthy, though I heard one lady say only this week that one of them can be a bit cantankerous if you are trying to tend graves. Hope they manage another three years ;o)
Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

It certainly would be fascinating to find out about their lives in order to see why the maritime imagery was chosen. If I still had a subscription to Ancestry.com I'd be asking for names and dates! Have a good weekend.

Some of the people must have been fairly wealthy because they were very large memorial stones. I do like to read the inscriptions in cemetaries though, I find it fascinating.

Aren't they fascinating? I took a photo of an old angel at our cemetery when I was 19, it has been stolen since, at least I still have the photo. I love looking at the old gravestones. The cherub is beautiful, Tam x

It can be very interesting walking among old graves. Makes one think of who they where and what sort of a life they had. Nice post and love the rabbits!

Hope your summer has not been too bad. I've been home ( northeast England) An the weather was certainly not good.

Thank you for sharing.

I love walking around graveyards, theres a few near me that have very old relative's graves which is fascinating. Nothing as ornate as those however!
