Time Flies!

Greenock schools start back today!  Hardly seems any time since they broke up for the holidays!

I kept my son's first school bag and some of his little workbooks.

I've seen trendy versions of these bags(as handbags) in some shops in all sorts of colours - very expensive.  Wonder if I should start using it?

Another sign of the advancing year - on a visit to the garden centre yesterday, they were putting out their Christmas cards!!!!!  Can you believe it????

Love, Liz

Greetings from Greenock

Can you believe the price of these 'vintage' satchels, over a hundred pounds for the (too)brightly coloured ones. Ridiculous. It annoys me when people advertise their goods as being 'vintage' when in fact they mean vintage 'style'.

I took my Mum to my local garden centre yesterday - Christmas was in evidence there too - cards and baubles, along with 2013 calendars. I love your satchel - I think you should start using it!

They are selling Cambridge satchels here, I know they're expensive - too scared to ask how much. If they're pricey in your neck of the woods, imagine how much they are here!
I think it's lovely that you kept your sons' Liz. Wish my Mum had kept my school case, that would be collectable these days too.

Pubs are also advertising their Christmas menus in August! I used to have a similar satchel - wish I'd kept it!

I knew Scotland went back earlier than England but didn't realise this early ... mine go back 3 weeks today! That satchel is lovely, very trendy, they're popping up all the time at vintage fairs, wish I'd kept mine! xxx

Oh yes, wear the satchel! To have an original rather than the expensive pretend ones is so stylish - people will stop you in the street and ask where you got it! Christmas cards already, honestly!

Wow, your schools go back early! Samantha has another 3 weeks yet, unless you broke up earlier? The workbooks are cute, I remember them. Yes, I've seen Christmas cards in the shops already, just been scared to mention it haha xxx

I love proper old satchels.
I think there should be a law against selling Christmas cards / decs and Christmas adverts before the beginning of November. M x

How sweet, my Mom keep are school work too. Christmas!?
I saw a local flower shoppe advertising "come in and see our Halloween decorations" and I thought THAT WAS TOO EARLY!

I'm afraid I can't like the handbag satchels - remind me too much of school and humping heavy bags around full of text and exercise books.

Our schools started up this week too. Your son's school bag is similar to what we call "messenger bags". Maybe you should start using it, since it's all the fashion right now. :-) I kept some of the school papers for each of my kids too. Brings back such sweet memories.

How clever that you kept his satchel. My lot all took backpacks to school.

I recognised those SPMG workbooks immediately. I had to mark them!

Hello Liz,

so soon???

Children don't go back to school here until 9th September. that is they break up on 21st June and go back 9th Sept...far ,far too long. After awhile they just don't know what to do with themselves. Its all rubbish about it being too hot during the summer months to go to school ,as they say here. The kids are out playing football and basket ball during the afternoon and its boiling out there.

Keep well

Amanda :-)

I saw the first Christmas commercial on Channel 4 last week. We have to have autumn arrive first...

I love that you have your son's bag and workbook. I have one workbook from when I was very young and smile at the answers written in it. I am glad my mother saved it and hopefully your son will be too.

Hugs from Holland ~
