Did Your Granny Wear A Pinny?

Did your Granny wear a pinny?

Mine did, but only when she was cooking or doing housework.  I don't have a photograph of her wearing one - that would never do!

I purchased this lovely apron recently from Laura at Just the Biscuit.  She has them in different colours.  Love the vintage look of them.

I love the fabrics in this one and the way it is edged in binding.  Just brings back memories of my Gran.

So - what kind of apron did your Granny wear?  Wrap round like this one, bib front or just a little apron that tied at the waist?

Love, Liz

That is a pinny and a half. It's gorgeous! I have a recollection of my mum wearing a house coat at some point. A house coat! What the heck! xx

My grandma wore an apron for doing the baking and all the chores around the house. I think she slipped her arms through and buttoned it in the back. Wish I had it now.

My grandmother wore a full apron which covered the front but it did not wrap around.

It's so lovely Liz. What memories you have bought back to me :o) My Nan always wore one too, she made them herself (without a pattern) on her Singer treadle machine. There was a crossover in the back straps that joined onto the neck strap - well I know what I mean! They were always is similar floral cotton fabrics with matching bias binding. I'm wondering now if my Mom still has one of them squirreled away...

I think I remember her in a pinny or a tabard, but not very often, lots of ladies in the village wore those wrap round pinnies, I love them, that one is really pretty!

My English grandma wore a lovely apron and was a wonderful cook, had her own vegetable garden. My Irish nana wore a cardigan sweater, smoked cigarettes and I never saw her cook anything more than toast or coffee. I loved them both immensely!!!!!

My Nan wore a housecoat over her slip and when she'd finished cooking or the housework then she'd get dressed. My mum had quite a few aprons which I now have and funnily enough have been thinking of doing a blog post on them too.

That is so pretty! My grandma wore a wrap around one, and my Mum used to wear an overall- some of them had sleeves, others were sleeveless, but they all buttoned down the front.

How gorgeous, i live in an apron type which ties around the back.. I have even worn it on the school run as I forget that I'm even wearing it. I don't remember my granny wearing one but I love them and will be heading over to purchase one myself xx

What a pretty apron! My grannies (both of them) never wore aprons but my mom always does when she's cooking. Hers is the one covering chest and tied around waist.

My nan wore a bibbed apron, but my great gran wore the wrapping variety, and like you Liz, I know there won't be a photograph of her in it. If there is, it's because she donned her overcoat to hide it.
I love the photos and thanks for the trip down Nostalgia Lane.

I remember my gran wearing a wrap around pinny. She baked every day and always had flour down the front where she would wipe her hands. Yours are so pretty.

Yes my gran wore a pinny, and all my aunts. Funny thing is, I can't remember my mum wearing one.. I wonder why. I always wear one from my extensive collection!

It's wonderful to see how many wonderful memories that has bought back to you all. I will be sharing this with my Mum as she will be thrilled with the response her apron has got.

Thank you
