Vintage Embroidered Tray Cloth

I found some fabulous vintage embroidered pieces in a charity shop at the weekend.  One is still soaking, but this one is washed and ready to show.  (Why is it that you think something is well ironed till you take a photo of it?!)

It is a pretty little vintage embroidered tray cloth.

I love the soft pastel colours and the pretty edging.  The embroidery is beautifully worked.

It is destined to go on my dressing table - should look lovely.

Hope you found some bargains this weekend.

Love, Liz

I feel your pain with ironing for blog photos. Gorgeous embroidery though, so it's worth doing :)

Hi there, I have some pretty tray cloths etc my mum embroidered during the war. How do you launder yours to get the lovely finish that you have. I'm scared to damage mine but they need freshening/whitening up. Any info would be great. Thank you.

PS I have a lot of lovely china too.

So beautiful. Funny to think that at one time, everyone had tray cloths and runners and tablecloths and napkins, often hand-embroidered, and now, hardly anyone uses them. I love old linens like this. xxxx

Lovely embroidery! I'd also be interested to know if you have any washing tips Liz. I've just bought some ammonia to try and remove rust from a garment. And I have a fruit juice stain on a vintage dress. x

I love thinking about the ladies who spent so long creating these. Or gentlemen. I have some sewn by a talented Welshman.
