Do You Remember IZAL Toilet Paper?

Do you remember IZAL toilet paper?

It was shiny on one side and slightly rougher on the other.  It smelt very like disinfectant.  In our house there was a limit on how many sheets you could use!  This is one part of the past that I have absolutely no desire to revisit!!!!!

It was also handy as tracing paper - I remember tracing maps from my atlas with IZAL.

These photographs are from a little sweet shop which is part of the Highland Folk Museum.  As well as the wonderful exhibits, it also sells lots of old fashioned sweets too!  Brings back a few memories.

Some things are definitely better left in the past - IZAL toilet paper is one of them!

Love, Liz

I can remember traveling in France many, many years ago and the toilet paper was like wax paper.

I remember it well. We also used it to wrap over a comb and blow on it like a mouth organ, very effective as I remember. Looks like a great place to visit.

Aaargh, IZAL...horrid stuff that used to slide off your bum. We had it at school, thank goodness we have moved onto better things.

I remenber threatening to runaway if mother didn't move over to soft toilet tissue. It worked, too, but in school, the old hard stuff went on until I left at age 18. Hurrah!I thought, no more Izal! Then I became a teacher and it was in use in London schools. I didn't see the back of the stuf until 2007, when I retired!

But the sweeties.....they are very welcome to join us in the 21st century! I love shops that still sell by the ounce, or beter still, by the half pound!

I remember the ghastly stuff as a child. Mind you, if I had chldren, they would probably go on to recall that I buy Lidl value loo roll and feel hard done by. Now I think about it, my Mum used to tell me that she had to use squares of newspaper in the earth closet down the garden!

Oh my goodness, there's memories for you. No more than 2 pieces please!

I do indeed remember Izal - dreadful stuff, had it in the loos at school in the 70s! xxx

We didn't have that product here in Australia, but sure had something similar. Like you, Liz, I also used it for tracing paper.
My mum refused to have awful paper in the loo. Dad would have preferred the austerity of the hard stuff, but mum prevailed! However, dad suggested no more than 4 squares be used to wipe yer bum! Mum told him that this was nonsense. :)
Today, I have the softest stuff I can get my hands on.

Hi Liz, I haven't heard of that brand before, well I guess back in my younger years we didn't really use toilet rolls. Lol...
Thank you for visiting my blog. Hope you have a lovely week.

Blessings,
Aida
