Scottish Outlander Places

I'm share some wonderful Outlander locations in Scotland that I've visited for Five on Friday this week.  Outlander is a TV series set in Scotland and based on the books written by Diana Gabaldon.

Perhaps Doune Castle is the most well known of all the locations.  I visited before Outlander was filmed there.  It is a beautiful castle in wonderful surroundings - must go back for another visit soon.

One of my favourite places was the West Kirk just outside Culross.  Just the ruins remain of this old church.  A bit of a trek to get there, but worth the visit.

Then there was the town of Culross itself.  Such a beautiful place full of atmosphere and history.

Blackness Castle on the River Forth was another location I visited last year.  A castle with a great history and even more interesting because of the Outlander connection.

Last but not least is the fabulous town of Falkland.  It has some lovely little shops and the wonderful Falkland Palace to visit.
Even if you are not a fan of Outlander, these places are great to visit.

Joining with Five on Friday.

Love, Liz

I've read the Outlander books and really enjoy them, but decided to give the tv series a miss, I prefer the version I've filmed in my head.

I haven't read the Outlander series, nor have I seen the films but as you say, these places are worth visiting all the same. I think my husbands mothers family is from Doune. Just looked at your Culross place, it does look fab and is not too far to travel to from Glasgow, maybe soon. Have a nice weekend.

I have never seen Outlander but it was great to see some of the places where it is filmed. It is always interesting to see places in real life after you have watched them on TV isn't it. Thank you for taking part in Five On Friday, hope you have a great weekend! xx

Oh how I love to visit places like this and I'd go back to Scotland over and over again. We have visited Castle Doune in Scotland (2004) because of it's scenes in Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Hope you have a wonderful weekend.

Liz, I appreciate your sharing these pictures of beautiful, atmospheric, historic places. I've not read the Outlander books nor seen the programs, but know of them via lots of advertising over here.

I've only been to Scotland once, and certainly hope to see more of your beautiful land again.

The scenery is gorgeous. I'm also keeping an eye on this autumn's Shetland Wool Week.
