My mixer - wonder how many cakes and desserts this has helped to make?
Moulinex Blender - used to have a little tub thingy for grinding things - really useful and well used. Check out the trendy orange trim!
Electric knife - remember them? Also a Moulinex in cream and orange. Great for cutting joints of meat. Somehow I manage with an ordinary knife now!
These old friends, now 40 years old, are off to the tip. Funnily enough, as I was taking these photographs the song that was playing on the radio was "I'll stand by you" by the Pretenders. Dear reader, I will admit that I had a wee tear in my eye - what an appropriate song!
Wonder if my replacements will last 40 years? (I'll never know!) What's your oldest kitchen appliance?

We still have a cast iton casserole dish and lid which was a wedding present in 1979, plus wooden spoons and a couple of pans from them too but no electrical appliances:)
I could have accurately guessed your age based on these products, as I had exactly the same Moulinex ones in Sydney, Australia.🙂
I love this post, Liz, and I almost got a wee tear in my eye as well. I always think it's sad to have to let something go which has been a part of your life for so long. And no, I don't think that any of today's electrical appliances are made to last for so long. xxx
Oh my - the showing of presents!!! Here in West Lothian the same "ritual" was performed much to my disgust. I truly didn't want to have one but it meant so much to my mum that I eventually relented:-)
I'm not sure if it's a Scottish thing.
One of my sons is getting married in September. I mentioned the present showing (I really think this is a Scottish thing). His bride loves the idea and wants to do one.
I explained that you just set your gifts out and have the aunties round to have a look and a snack/drink.
But I also explained she still has to do thank you cards!
I still have a moulinex food processor from about 1970, still working and most of the cutlery we were given as wedding presents in 1967. Your pictures bring back so many memories of those days. How modern we thought we were to own such labour saving gadgets! And I still own and use an electric carving knife, though not my original alas.
i have been searching forever for the moulinex with the grindy thing , i had my mothers and my ex chucked it in the bin because an all singing dancing food processor looked much nicer ...the food processor ended up in the charity shop because it was useless and a nightmare to clean
Oh wow, this is brilliant! My mum and Dad got married in 1980 and they have near identical items which they also received as wedding presents. They definitely had that bread knife! Although I don't think Mum's mixer was exactly the same as yours she definitely has that bowl. The mixer is long gone but the mixing bowl is still in use.

Hi Liz, ah - they are so lovely....I remember we had an electric knife like yours! Its amazing that they all lasted so long, you must have looked after them so well.

I so understand Liz!!! I am so reluctant to let "old faithfuls" go. I have been able to get some of my old kitchen appliances mended but some others I really should let go. Take my red kitchen scales which I bought back in the 70s. They have served me well to just recently when I lost some chunks from the rim of the dish and it has cracks now too. Very tatty!! Hubby thought nice new scales would be an ideal gift for me this Christmas and I now have posh shiny digital scales hanging on the wall. Which I have to work out how to use! I am so ungrateful but it is so much easier using my old red scales....sigh!!

I have the electric knife exactly the same as yours. Could not do without it and it's still in its box. Didn't get it as a wedding present though - CS find. I had the same pressure cooker which cooked many a stew.

What a lovely post. I’m still using my orange slow cooker like yours. My electric hand whisk was bought by my mum in the late sixties and is still going strong. My food processor, a nice caramel colour, was bought in the early eighties. Very modern! B x
I surely wish I had belongings that have been with me that long. Perhaps we have a small mourning ceremonial for them... (smile)
