Finding the right place

Have you ever had an idea at the back of your mind that you would just love to turn into reality?  My idea was to have my own special stitching spot and to have on display an object that had been at the back of my cupboard for over 40 years.

Can you guess what it is?  It was stored in this rather unremarkable box and extremely heavy!

It is this beautiful vintage Singer sewing machine!  Isn't it wonderful!

I believe it probably dates from about the early 1900s.  It belonged to my husband's grandmother but may have been passed down to her.  It still has all its little extra bits and pieces.

There's an instruction booklet too.

Now that I have my sewing space sorted, I've given it pride of place on a little table covered by a vintage tablecloth.

The treasures you find at the back of cupboards!

Love, Liz

A Treasure indeed! It is wonderful and I do like the beautiful floral design. I had a quick search on google and the old Singer's with floral designs date around about the early 1890s. The ones I saw there didn't look in such good condition as yours! I would cherish that sewing machine if it were mine as I am sure you do too. Enjoy! Amanda x

A beautiful sewing machine-I don't think I've ever seen one like it! It's a perfect addition to your sewing area. I have my husband's grandmother's old Singer treadle machine. The cabinet isn't in good shape, but the machine is lovely. It has what is called the "Red Eye" design painted on it.

What a gorgeous machine, Liz, and it certainly deserves to be prominently on display in your sewing corner! It must have breathed a very audible sigh of relief after being let out after 40 years! xxx

Gorgeous machine, even better it's stayed in your family. A bit of information, your machine was made in 1906 or 1907 (sources vary) and is a model 66. Which agrees with those back clamp presser feet - don't lose those! Here's a bit of information -

The proper manual is also available there.

i have a 1917 Lotus in a treadle cabinet , still used regularly. Its one of the best of the Singers, the transfers have lasted and they are virtually indestructible
