Storing threads

I used to cross stitch all the time.  I have so many little bits and pieces which I've sewn over the years, but recently I've not been spending so much time with needle and thread.

Talking about thread - I thought I'd show you how I keep mine.

I got these boxes (once full of chocolates) back in the 90s and once I'd finished the goodies I found that they were the perfect place to store my threads. They are attractive to look at too.

Each drawer contains shades of certain colours, so I can find what I'm looking for very quickly.

I've promised myself that I'm going to do much more cross stitch this year.

One of my biggest problems is deciding which pattern I'm going to start with.

How do you store your threads?

Love, Liz

Lovely way to store your threads.
I've enjoyed my visit here, and finding your blog after you left a comment at mine. I'm not sure I would use the pimple potion tough!
Fabulous tea cosies, I've made a few of those in years gone by.

What pretty chocolate boxes, and they are perfect for that, and I love how they are color sorted. My daughter has been trying to learn embroidery on and off, and she just has them in a plastic container. xoxo Su

Hi Liz, I am just the same. I used to cross stitch in a big way but crochet seems to have taken over my life over the last couple of years. I only stitched one small ornament last year. I must get back toot because I have so much stitch related stash. Oh for more time to fit everything in. xx

I remember these boxes, aren't they beautiful.

I've wrapped the thread around little cards and pencilled the number on the card and stored them in a container, but I like your method better.
As soon as I finish an afghan (which will take me a couple months the way I'm going, haha!), I am planning on embroidering some linen towels. I'm so looking forward to it, since it's been quite awhile. I think I will adopt your sorting method if I can find a pretty box like that.

For many years I cross stitched, until my eyesight got worse. I still have a box of embroidery threads that are wound on white cardboard stock squares with the color number written on the card. The cards are filed in numerical order.

I've gotten interested in cross stitch again-I haven't done any in years, but picked it back up around Christmas. I need to find something like this to store my thread in. Thanks for sharing!

I wrap mine onto card and store in a plastic container. Not a pretty sight, I love your storage solution.
