I don't know why I bought this little brooch. There was something about it ...
It's not particularly pretty, or sparkly, or unusual.
But, somehow, it spoke to me.
I don't usually even look at jewellery in charity shops, its not something I'm particularly interested in. But, one look, and the brooch was mine. It's as if I was meant to have it.
I think the reason that jewellery doesn't interest me is because it is so personal. China, linens and books are much more ordinary and everyday, whereas jewellery is very much connected to the character and life of the person who owned it.
So, I wonder -
who did it belong to
did she wear it often
was it given as a gift - if so, who by - a parent or a lover - a friend or a child
did it remind her of a special occasion
So many questions from one little insignificant piece of jewellery.
Do you ever wonder?
Love, Liz

I'm like you Liz, not much of a jewellery wearer and specially not brooches - I always associate them with powdery old ladies. But I saw one in a charity shop cabinet a couple months back and that called to me too. You're right, sometimes you're just drawn to things, as if by magnetism.

I'm drawn to the china floral brooches at the moment, and have found some lovely ones in the CS.
I'm not a brooch wearer either,but I love yours. :0)
I,m not a brooch wearer either, but I have bought jewellery sometimes. I think each time I buy something at a charity shop or a flea marked, wonder who's it was etc.
Thank you for sharing.
No wonder you bought this sweet brooch it is so lovely with beautiful colours and detail :)
Bee happy x
Have a delicious day!
I'm afraid I don't 'do' jewelry either but your brooch is indeed beautiful. Isn't it odd that an inanimate object can 'speak' like that. It would be interesting to know its' story.
Love from Mum

I think it's lovely and I'd have been very pleased if it had called me! x
What a lovely brooch. I really enjoyed reading your blog
I love brooches, have quite a few and do wear them. Yours is so pretty. I wonder about almost every old thing I buy from bootsales and charity shops - the people who embroidered the linen, the people who looked in the mirrors or used the furniture, and why the things are no longer wanted , by them or by their relatives if the owner has died. I spend a lot of time wondering as I buy so much!
Hello Liz, thank you so much for your lovely comments on my post!
And to answer your question, yes I do wonder sometimes if someone else enjoyed some items which I now one as much as I do. Wonderful brooch! Enjoy.
Ah, what a coincidence! This is so pretty. :)
I wonder about previous owners too! It is special to think about the people that made & love the piece.
Very cute pin,

What lovely comments - looks like we all think the same things!

Count me in too! This struck a chord after my piece about the little drum charm. I hope you’ll wear it.
I'm always wondering about things and people Liz x
I wonder that about all my vintage finds.
That's so pretty - brooches are great as they are so easy to add to a jacket.

I think I probably wonder about these things far too much, but then it's hard not to isn't? Especially with finds in charity shops and dusty old antiques emporiums.
It's a lovely brooch - my little imaginary history for it says it was much beloved and gifted mother to daughter, cherished and then somehow lost. But then that's the flights of fancy talking!

It's SO pretty. I feel the same when i found a very old dress once, but it's nice to imagine who had worn it.
